Frequently Asked Questions About the Rodeo

1Who is invited to the Rodeo Roundup?
Everyone! This is a community event and families from around Texas are invited as well as Here I Am donors and event sponsors.
2What activities will be available at the Rodeo Roundup?
There will be lots of activities for all ages. Youth with rodeo experience are encouraged to participate in their event(s) of choice. For kids of any age without rodeo experience or riders needing assistance, we have our Shining Stars event where any child can be guided through the events by a parent or Youth Wrangler. A horse will be provided for them. If you are not inclined to participate in rodeo events, we encourage your family to join us to watch the events and participate in the petting zoo, hay rides, corn hole, concessions, and other fun family activities! We are adding activities to the list every week!
3What is the Shining Stars event?
The Shining Stars event allows children with no rodeo experience or those needing assistance to participate. Their horse (provided by the ministry) is guided by a parent or Youth Wrangler, and they will be led through the events to participate at their own pace. This is a highlight of the rodeo as our ministry focuses on helping children with special needs find families. All children regardless of needs are encouraged to participate and you do not have to be adopted to participate. Children of all ages and abilities are welcome!
4How can we participate if we don't live close enough to drive in for the day?
We'd love to have families from all over Texas join us, but we know a long road trip is not feasible for a 1-day event. If you have a child who would like to participate in Shining Stars, let us know and we'd be happy to talk with you about what it would take to help with travel costs. Also, you can help support the rodeo by sponsoring the event, praying for the event, or donating to help cover the entry fees of other participants (HIAOM website).
5What is the dress code for rodeo participants?
Dress code enforced in all ages except Shining Stars, but long pants and closed toed shoes are required for all contestants including Shining Stars. The dress code is:
  1. Strictly western attire in the arena at all times. (Belts are not required.)
  2. Shirts must have a collar and full length buttons, snaps, or zipper in the front or back. Shirts must be long sleeved and cuffed and be worn with sleeves down and cuffs buttoned or snapped with no rolled up sleeves.
  3. Shirts must be tucked in pants at the beginning of the run or ride.
  4. Western hats are optional. Ball caps are not allowed. Helmets are permitted.
  5. No caps, curlers, or curler caps are to be worn.Western boots must be worn in all events. Lace up tennis shoes with a riding heel are not considered western boots.
